Theme: Design with Memory, Future with Meaning
Uma peça que cruza a cultura portuguesa e japonesa, inspirada no oceano como elo comum. Um biombo construído com madeiras de desperdício, lã residual e cerâmica evocativa, combinando formas, técnicas e símbolos dos dois países. A obra valoriza o upcycling e os materiais com história, propondo um design que respeita o passado e aponta ao futuro.

A piece that bridges Portuguese and Japanese culture, inspired by the ocean as a shared link. A screen built from waste wood, surplus wool, and evocative ceramics, combining forms, techniques, and symbols from both countries. The work celebrates upcycling and materials with a story, proposing a design that respects the past while looking to the future.

「ポルトガルと日本の文化をつなぐ作品であり、海を共通の結びとしてインスピレーションにしています。廃材の木材、余剰ウール、陶器を用いた屏風で、両国の形状、技法、象徴を組み合わせています。この作品はアップサイクルと物語のある素材を称え、過去を尊重しつつ未来を見据えたデザインを提案します。」
A cerâmica no biombo combina tradições portuguesa e japonesa, com padrões florais e tons de azul que evocam a delicadeza e a história de ambos os países. O prato presente na obra é da Vista Alegre, símbolo da porcelana portuguesa, e integra-se harmoniosamente com os elementos japoneses, celebrando o diálogo entre culturas e o património artístico.

The ceramics on the folding screen combine Portuguese and Japanese traditions, featuring floral patterns and shades of blue that evoke the delicacy and history of both countries. The plate in the work is from Vista Alegre, a symbol of Portuguese porcelain, blending harmoniously with Japanese elements and celebrating the dialogue between cultures and artistic heritage.

O Sol Nascente, símbolo da bandeira japonesa, representa energia, renovação e esperança. Em “O Poder das Conexões”, ele surge nos discos vermelhos do biombo, celebrando a força e a luz que unem culturas e atravessam mares.

The Rising Sun, symbol of the Japanese flag, represents energy, renewal, and hope. In “The Power of Connections,” it appears in the red discs of the folding screen, celebrating the strength and light that connect cultures across the seas.

日本の旗のシンボルである 日の出 は、エネルギー、再生、希望を象徴しています。『つながりの力』では、屏風の赤い円に表され、文化を結び、海を越える光と力を祝福しています。
A Esfera Armilar, símbolo da bandeira portuguesa, representa a exploração, o conhecimento e a ligação entre mundos. No biombo de “O Poder das Conexões”, surge nos discos amarelos, com acabamento de cor Robbialac, celebrando a história e a luz que atravessa tempos e oceanos.

The Armillary Sphere, symbol of the Portuguese flag, represents exploration, knowledge, and the connection between worlds. In “The Power of Connections,” it appears in the yellow discs, finished with Robbialac paint, celebrating the history and light that traverse time and oceans.

ポルトガルの旗のシンボルである 天球儀 は、探検、知識、世界のつながりを表しています。『つながりの力』では、黄色い円に表され、Robbialac塗装 の仕上げで、時と海を越える歴史と光を祝福しています。
Os nós náuticos, presentes nas tradições marítimas de Portugal e do Japão, representam ligação, força e herança marítima. No biombo, são feitos em corda de sisal, unindo simbolicamente as duas culturas.

The nautical knots, part of both Portuguese and Japanese maritime traditions, symbolize connection, strength, and maritime heritage. On the folding screen, they are crafted from sisal rope, symbolically linking the two cultures.

A lã residual, reaproveitada na construção do biombo, representa a vida marinha, evocando texturas e formas do oceano. Os tons de verde e azul reforçam a sensação de água e biodiversidade, enquanto cada fio remete à riqueza e diversidade do mundo subaquático, reforçando o conceito de upcycling e sustentabilidade.

The leftover wool, repurposed in the folding screen, represents marine life, evoking the textures and forms of the ocean. The green and blue tones reinforce the sense of water and biodiversity, while each thread reflects the richness and diversity of the underwater world, emphasizing upcycling and sustainability.

屏風に再利用された 余剰ウール は、海洋生物 を表現しており、海の質感や形を想起させます。緑と青の色合い が水や生物多様性の感覚を強調し、それぞれの糸が水中世界の豊かさと多様性 を象徴し、アップサイクル と持続可能性の理念を強調しています。
O padrão ondulado do biombo foi pintado à mão pelo criador, usando as tintas da Robbialac, e inspira-se na obra “As Grandes Ondas de Kanagawa”. As ondas representam o movimento do oceano, a força da natureza e a conexão entre culturas, reforçando a temática marítima da peça.

The wave pattern on the folding screen was hand-painted by the creator using Robbialac paints, inspired by the artwork “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”. The waves symbolize the movement of the ocean, the force of nature, and the connection between cultures, reinforcing the maritime theme of the piece.
